Training & Consultation

Training of mentors for assistance to commercial farmers

The primary objectives of the mentor-ship training is to pass on all the necessary relevant information and practical knowledge to the participants so that they are ready to go country over and teach other local farmers the new methods of farming they have learnt. These new trained mentors are always working closely with us and we offer updates to them on a regular basis.

The participants will build the capacity to assist farmers to develop a professional business plan and challenge entrepreneurship and business development plans. The participants will be provided with knowledge, tools and methods necessary to evaluate and challenge existing and new businesses. They will acquire working knowledge from theory, business cases and eventually field trips to Denmark and our different projects world over to acquire new inspiration

Local training

We have designed practical training courses for farmers to ran different types of crop and livestock enterprises at a profit making scale. We deliver these practically on the farm site or we take the farmers to the model farms that we are affiliated to. Normally we do it for a period of one week or even to the clients wish. Our danishknowhow® partners are always present during the training and they actively train our clients. Their input is of great value as they share, train and equip our clients with the much more needed technology.

Training in Denmark

Training our clients in Denmark gives them an edge over their competitors. Here they are exposed to the modern farming and technology. After or even before the training, our clients are linked to their counter parts i.e the Danish farmers.

Through this relationship, our client’s benefits more as they can use their counter parts to acquire loans from Danida at a very low rate of interest. Danida has a program for developing countries to help them with development but they must be working hand in hand with Danish farmers. This loan is only given in form of agro machinery which is had and costly to get in Uganda.

On arrival in Denmark, danishknowhow® takes over and makes sure that our clients are accorded the best hospitality. All the basis essentials of the course are included in the amount of fee charged per head. Courses and divided into theories and practical’s which take place both in classes and at farms. More information on these arrangements can be got from our offices.

Knowledge Sharing

The knowledge acquired during the training will be used by the participants(mentors) in regions around the country. The mentors will be based in the regions and will act as supporters to the local business development. Their support will contribute to the development in the region – by increasing the number of entrepreneurs, facilitate the success for the entrepreneurs and increasing the supply and quality of food in the region.

Net Working

Through net working, our clients can be able to get new partners from the different parts of the world. We do the connection for no costs for our registered clients. The connections can be to different types of groups of our working partner’s e.g. Banks, investors, and farmers from developed countries for example Denmark, Netherlands and so many others. We do also make connections to local farmers but of course with a meaning of benefiting for both.

Danishknowhow and Danishagroconnect are best known in holding creative agro workshops. Our workshops help bring together people from all professions, ages, and nations. Our participants meet like-minded and inspiring individuals and make lifelong partnerships. All workshops are taught in English, and if need be, translation can be arranged for.

Among the many things our workshops help our participants with are:

  • Learning practical techniques and innovative thinking.
  • Find new sources of inspiration.
  • Learning the Danish model of agricultural and get suggestions on how to implement new technologies at your own production.
  • We prepare our participants for the future demand. We teach them how to combine high productivity with sustainable quality.
  • We also give the participants tools to get a brighter look at their production and to pin point the areas on which they need to improve.

Also for the investors who want to get assistance to penetrate the East African market, please contact our Danish offices for assistance.

Tips on Farming

At our head office and in our workshops, we normally give good tips in different areas of agriculture. From crop management to farm management and livestock management, we always offer tips for successful business. Below are some of the most crucial tips we give for diary farming;-

a) Selection of good quality of breed:- While dairy farming one of important point is selection of animals which having good breed character .This perspective mainly for those farmers who want to do commercial dairy farming. The animals which show true breed characters are to be selected. The main production points like milking and reproductive ability has most concern in this criteria.eg- Crossbred of Holstein Frisian has more feed intake ability as well as give good milking than other breeds but it requires high quality balanced feed & fodder and if rarer has not capacity to cadre the need then ultimately he is in loss due to low production as well as imbalanced feeding causes deficiency diseases which requires longer time to recovers.
While selection of animal parental history is required but in field in regional market you will not get that kind of records so most dependency is on physical characters of animals as well as direct milking of animals gives you ideas about animals. Also it is good if you take help of Veterinarian while selection of animals.

2.Facilities:- If you want to rear good kind of animals then there should be provision of good kind of animal shed, feeding facilities ,Watering facilities, Health provisions as well as owner should have knowledge about it.(It means he should also undergo training on dairy farming). In many circumstances ,to reduce expenditure on production cost of milk, dairy farmers must adopt recent techniques to decrease cost on feed and lobour by enhancing quality of feed recedes as well as mechanization and less labour consuming practices in dairy farming.

3.) Market:- One of important factor in dairy farming is market. If you sell milk to dairy collection unit then you will get less profit but if you sell it directly to customers with having quality(without adding water) then you will catch market within very short time.

4) Records:- dairy farmer should know condition of farm at any stage ,and is only possible through keeping records…
5)Risks :- In each business ,there are risks, it is to be known that this business is 24 hour service and need individual attention ,then & then you will get profit. Natural calamities like floods, Earthquakes are not avoidable but health related factors like communicable diseases can be avoided as it has preventive vaccinations.
